Eating Disorder Treatment Center provides an Intensive Outpatient Program (BED-IOP) specifically focused on helping people of all ages and genders experiencing any of the symptoms of one of the most common of all eating disorders, Binge Eating Disorder.
Binge Eating Disorder affects an estimated 2.8 million people in the United States and is an officially recognized medical condition. Though Binge Eating Disorder (BED) is the official medical diagnosis, people often think of it as “stress eating”, “emotional eating”, “uncontrolled eating” or just plain “overeating”. Sufferers often feel stigmatized by their behaviors or have distressing feelings about how they perceive themselves physically. These feelings often result in hesitation about seeking treatment.
Commonly reported symptoms of Binge Eating Disorder and/or Emotional Eating include:
- Regularly eating large amounts of food, beyond the point of feeling comfortably full
- Feeling embarrassed or guilty about personal eating habits
- Often eating alone or in secrecy
- Feeling “addicted” to certain types of food
- Repetitively cycling through dieting and binge behaviors
- Inability to control behaviors regardless of consequences to health, finances, or relationships
- Negative body image or self-perception
The Eating Disorder Treatment Center Binge Eating Intensive Outpatient Program is designed to help people discover and address the roots of their symptoms, work towards finding peace with food We help people develop healthy coping skills for life’s problems without resorting to self-harming behaviors involving food.
The Binge Eating Disorder treatment team is a group of specially trained therapists and dietitians who help program participants develop the tools needed to manage or resolve the issues that have kept them imprisoned by their eating disorder. One very important part of the Binge Eating Disorder Intensive Outpatient Program is a monthly meeting of the individual’s family/support group to help facilitate psychoeducation and relationship building for the loved ones of those involved in the program.
