Dr. Kristina Sowar, MD
I am excited to join the excellent team at the Eating Disorder Treatment Center of Albuquerque as Psychiatrist and Medical Director. Throughout my medical training, I have been privileged to learn much about the psychological, medical, and family interfaces in eating disorder care, and work to maintain a compassionate and open-minded approach to collaborative care.
I began my undergraduate college degree at Yale as a student-athlete, but after taking time off during college, completed my undergraduate work in my hometown at University of Colorado at Boulder, with a degree in Molecular Biology and Biochemistry. I completed medical school at University of Colorado, as part of the AOA and Gold Humanism Honor Societies. I began my medical career with an internship in Family Medicine at the Santa Rosa Family Medicine Residency in Northern California, in the process deciding Psychiatry and Behavioral Health was a better fit for my interests and personality. I completed my General Psychiatry Residency and Child and Adolescent Psychiatry fellowship here in Albuquerque at the University of New Mexico, and have stayed on as faculty, serving both on inpatient and outpatient teams, and staffing in the Psychiatric ER. I also perform ECT services.
I much appreciate the multidisciplinary, holistic approach at EDTC, and am excited to serve on the team in completing Psychiatric evaluations, medication management, psychotherapy, and consultation needs.
